Hunt Code: ELK-2-306

Unit 6A, Bows Only, September 1-15,
Either Sex Elk , Standard License Fee ($543), "Drop Camp" and all "Outfitted" Hunt Packages Available (Good, first, second, or third choice)

Unit 6A, Bows Only, September 16-22,

Hunt Code: ELK-2-182

Archery Elk Program Hunt
(Combination Unit 34, September 1-22; Unit 6A, September 1-15; and Unit 6A September 16-22) Submitting your application with these three hunts as your first, second, and third choice maximizes your odds of drawing a quality hunt. The three hunts of the program are all superb hunts. I am promoting this package to encourage participation in Unit 6A. This is an exceptional unit which we've been developing as a backup option for our hunters. Unit 34 is a consistent good producer and very popular with my archery hunters. Often my hunters will only apply for Unit 34 and I'll get a good group in 34 and only a few in 6A. Don't pass up 6A in your hunt consideration! This is a beautiful unit bordering the legendary Valles Caldera National Preserve. I suggest you avail yourself of this excellent opportunity to optimize your NM archery hunt prospects by applying for the Archery Elk Program Package.

For "Archery Elk Program Hunt" list the following hunts on your application in this order.

Booking a Hunt

Read and then print out this page for step-by-step instructions on booking a hunt with San Juan River Outfitters.

Since there are very few "over-the-counter" licenses for elk, deer, or oryx in New Mexico, the first step of booking a hunt is getting you into the lottery drawing for a license. Much of what you’ll need to do involves that application process. By choosing us as your outfitter, your application will be processed through the outfitter pool, which greatly improves your odds of drawing a tag. Our commitment is to help you make an educated hunt choice and submit a proper application by the April 9, 2008 deadline (February 6, 2008 for Oryx hunts). By applying with us you are committing to use our services for your hunt if you are
drawn for a tag. The most convenient method of application is via the internet so this instruction will refer to that method. If you don’t have internet access, don’t want to use a credit card, or just prefer to submit a paper application, contact me and I’ll mail you the forms you’ll need.

Getting started.  Choosing a Hunt

Your first step will be determining what species you want to hunt, Deer , Elk, or Oryx and then what weapons choice you prefer; Archery, Muzzleloader, or Rifle If you will be hunting both deer and elk, you will submit a separate application for each species. Both deer and elk applications fall under the April 9, 2008 (Draw 2) deadline. Oryx is also a separate application and falls in the February 6, 2008 (Draw 1) deadline. You will be asked later which deadline you’re applying for. Turkey hunts don't require entry into the lottery drawing. Turkey tags are available over-the-counter. Simply call me and schedule the dates for your turkey hunt.

Next you will choose a hunt(s) from our schedule, which you’ll find at left. The various dates, hunt units, weapons choices and hunt options are spelled out here. I know you may have questions when it comes to a final decision on your hunt so please feel free to contact me directly. I am always happy to give you some advice on the pros and cons of the various choices. When you find the hunt that suits you, make note of the “Hunt Code”. You’ll need this code for your "First Choice" slot on your application. I also urge you to consider some alternate hunts to use as a second and third choice on your application, or chose one of our 3 hunt “Program Hunts”. These "backup" hunts greatly improve your odds of hunting in 2008. (I do not suggest you choose the 4th choice option on your
application)

Determining the size of your   group.

You are allowed to place up to four hunters on each application form. ( 2 for Oryx) Each form is treated as a single unit for purposes of the drawing. Either all of you will draw or all of you will not. (You are not required to apply as a group. This decision is based more on your willingness to have your party split up. You can each apply separately, but understand one of you may draw and the other(s) not).

2008 Archery Mule Deer

Unit 2A, Archery, January 1-15, 2009, Quality License Fee ($355),
Buck Only (Minimum Fork Antlered), all "Outfitted" Hunt Packages Available (2A is good unit with the great genetics of this are. Its drawback is that it's also the area with the towns of this county and has a lot of private land, so is access is limited in some areas. Still a good hunt. Consider it for your second or third choice.
Hunt Code: DER-2-102

Unit 2B, Archery, January 1-15, 2009, Quality License Fee ($355),
Buck Only (Minimum Fork Antlered), all "Outfitted" Hunt Packages Available (This is one of the two best winter bowhunts in the state. Great deer numbers, big bucks in a legendary trophy unit. The record books are dominated by bucks from this county, "Rio Arriba") I'd combine this with Unit 2C as my first and second choices.
Hunt Code: DER-2-107

Unit 2C, Archery, January 1-15, 2009, Quality License Fee ($355),
Buck Only (Minimum Fork Antlered), all "Outfitted" Hunt Packages Available (This is the hunt for the serious trophy hunter. Huge bucks in this unit. This is the one for those up to the challenge.) I'd combine this with Unit 2B as my first and second choices.
Hunt Code: DER-2-109

Print out two copies of your application confirmation page. Keep one copy for your records and send one to me along with the contract form as described below.

Hold on to your application and make note of the number as other members of your party will need it to add their names. You’ll also use this to access drawing results which will be available on the internet on June 18, 2008.

Go to www.sjroutfitters.com and select the appropriate contract
from the “Contract Forms” page. Fill in all the information, sign and mail it
to me at:

San Juan River Outfitters

200 Rd. 4599

Blanco , NM 87412

Please be sure to send me this contract form and a copy of your application. We are both legally required to have this contract executed if you have applied using my outfitter number. When the state sends me the list of applicants under my number, I must have a contract on file for each of you.

Remember: You will not be required to pay me anything until we see if you've drawn an '08 tag. I do, however, need you to fill out the contract, and make your best guess as to which hunt package you'll want. You may change your mind as to which hunt package you’d like at any time. You are however, by use of my outfitter number, committing to employ us in one of our capacities for your hunt.

Thank you for confidence in us and we pledge our very best to serve you well in the woods this fall. Feel free to contact me anytime for any help you may need on your application.
